If you haven’t been to church or temple for a while, it can be interesting to go again, and notice what you notice.
When you go, you will find people who are still in religious community; this can seem unusual, because so many have begun to turn away from traditional religion and instead have chosen to create a religion of their own: no priest, no rabbi, no guru. And yet, people in religious community have not turned away; they are still following a traditional or ancestral path. When you go into religious community, you will see the power of ritual, the power of group thought in people who have decided to believe the same thing. You will also see the power of religion to support and comfort people in the comminuity. Go in with an open mind. Look around and observe. See if the Divine is in the room for you, in church or temple. Or, see if you find the Divine more easily, in the freedom of your own life. Maybe it doesn't matter: maybe the Divine is the room, wherever we are. Notice also the power of many people praying and worshiping together; this may be powerful in a good way for you, or it may be disturbing. It may bring up feelings you had in the past, as a child. Be a part of the experience, and notice what you notice. Add this to your understanding. Continue your own spiritual practice, with this inew information Much love, SARA Comments are closed.
