Today’s Daily Divine is from The 33 Lessons:
“The heart must be cleared, continually and always, by revealing and gifting of your heart to us, by allowing us to take your burdens and your pains, and giving this to us.”
Here is how I think of this passage: that we are in charge of keeping our heart clear.
Our heart is our emotional center, the place our soul resides, the center of our feeling and knowing. This is what we are charged with.
To become clear, we must remove all blockages, which can include energy, emotions, anything that seems to get "stuck", anything that is repressed or ignored, or anything that we don't want to look at becuase we fear it might be too painful.
We allow this feeling. And then we just let things flow.
For the heart to be clear, it needs a steady removal of all feelings and emotions—the negative and the positive—so that this state of flow can be clear and pure.
If you are feeling stuck, check your heart. See what needs to be cleared. Let yourself feel whatever that is, and notice the release that happens.
Today's Daily Divine is from The 33 Lessons:
“The thoughts of sadness lead to more sadness, and the thoughts of joy and beauty—the term you use is abundance. When you believe in one thing, you call upon the Divine to prepare this for you. There is nothing you cannot have. But there is much you will not want.
So it is important to stay clear in the mind, for the mind is the place where you are most apt to become confused.”
I don't believe that thinking one bad thing dooms you to a life of bad things forever.
However, if you do perserverate on a continual thoughts of doom and gloom, or if you obsess or have anxiety about negative things, eventually the Universe will create what you obsess on.
Your thoughts do become reality—yet there is a lot of flex and forgiveness here!
The Universe supports your soul growth—the Universe helps you move to thoughts that are positive, compassionate and joyful.
Practice noticing your thoughts in an kind and easy way today.
Don't force positivity or try to be "upbeat."
Be gentle on yourself, and allow change to happen over time.
Today's Daily Divine is from The 33 Lessons:
“The energies in themselves are neither good nor bad.
They are merely energies that you, soul in human form, mind in body, experience.
Yet because you are human, the darker energies are harder to navigate, just as it would be hard to walk through a river of mud.
This is why you choose the Light. You can move through it more quickly.”
I think about this idea a lot whenever I am in a situation where I am feeling:
Whenever I start to feel these feelings, I remember this idea about dark energies, and how dark energies and emotions feel like slogging through the mud.
I can stay in the mud—or I can shift my attention to seomthing Lighter, easier, more fun, nicer, kinder.
We can't always control the events or energies or people in our lives.
But we can decide what we experience.
Today's Daily Divine is from The 33 Lessons:
“Your people have been tribal people.
But the time for this is fast becoming decayed.
The protection of the tribe, the gain of the tribe, the striving of nation against nation, group against group, faction against faction.
The time for this is nearly done.” --The 33 Lessons
Oneness hit me like a river of Flow yesterday when I was meditating during the full moon lunar eclipse—I could FEEL many, many souls meditating together.
Tribal means separating.
Oneness is inclusive.
We are moving now, toward collective soul, toward understanding ourselves—and feeling ourselves—as One.
It's the first time in over 150 years that we'll gaze upon this moon.
It's a full moon—in Leo.
It's a super moon—closer to earth.
It's a blue moon—the second of two moons in january.
It's a total lunar eclipse.
And it's happening tomorrow, January 31.
What does this mean at a soul level? How can we prepare spiritually?
There are prophecies and predictions from all sides.
What I am sensing is this: The last time we saw this moon was in 1866—interestingly, the same year of the first Civil Rights Act (leading to the 14th amendment in 1868) and the end of the Civil War.
A year in which past wrongs were righted.
A year in which awareness became law.
A year in which humans were recognized as equal.
150 years later, we can set intention that this cycle repeats: that civil and human rights for all—regardless of race, religion, gender, culture, age—are championed again.
The political swirl is very active right now.
The U.S. especially is sorting and sifting through the old ways, finally having the strength and voice to claim what we know to be true: all are equal, all are One.
Note also that this lunar eclipse cycles back to the energy of the solar eclipse of August 2017. Our connection as One will resonate again.
How can we harness the power of this rare moon?
The very simple, very intense ritual I suggest for January 31 is:
1. Witness the eclipse. Check here for times and map of the path of totality.
2. Moon bathe. Go outside and meditate, pray and cry beneath this super blue blood moon.
3. As you absorb the energy of the planets, do three things
• Release what needs to go. Be brave and release without fear.
• Feel your feelings. Let them come and move through you.
• Open yourself. Put your mind and fears aside allow guidance to come.
"Many of you hear us already through signs in the air, a brushing feeling upon your shoulder, a shimmering on your skin.
Some of you feel us as Truth, as a chill that runs along your spine.”—The 33 Lessons
“The Universe does not abandon you.
“You must know that it is possible to lock into the hum and feel the consciousness of the Universe at all times.
“Never before have we in this realm been able to use the methodology of writing as a tool to reach so many people.
Sometimes it seems we follow our schedules religiously—except when it comes to our spiritual life.
Now, some of you have very active spiritual practices, and you understand why it’s important to create time and space for retreats, workshops and events that expand you. Yes! This is the way to do it!
But for many folks—and I know this because I hear this directly from you—you're so busy with your life, spiritual practice seems to take a back seat.
Maybe we can grab a couple of minutes in the morning to journal, or a few minutes to meditate before bed. Maybe we multi-task by listening to spiritual podcasts while we’re at the gym. Or we squeeze our Divine connection into yoga class during the week, or at a Sunday spiritual service.
It's hard to understand until you're there... but..once you start making your spiritual life your priority, your to-do list is going to shrink.
You won’t be squeezing spirituality in anymore.
Skimping on the Divine won't be enough.
You’ll want to make it your priority.
And when you make it your priority, all the busyness, all the doingness—will start to drop away. You just won't be interested any more.
Once you start connecting in with the Divine—really experiencing two-way communication with the Universe—then the stuff that doesn’t really matter, won’t matter to you.
P.S. Try my NEW DailyOM course, Overcoming Body Shame.
What happens when you intentionally decide, like Henry Thoreau, to go into the woods? Or the mountains? Or the desert? Or the beach?
When you just decide to take some space, get outside of your current situation, get outside of your head?
When you decide to let to of the drama and the deadlines and the demands that we call life… And instead, you decide to be with yourself for a while, in order to discover who you really are?
In tribal societies, many cultures have an initiation or walkabout or vision quest, where a person goes alone in to the wilderness for a period of time, in order to attract guidance from the Universe. Often this person is moving from youth into adulthood; it’s a rite of passage.
But a vision quest doesn’t have to be only for youth.
We can receive visions, signs and guidance anytime we choose to break routine; anytime we show up with the intention of receiving.
If you put off taking retreat, if you never slow down, if you never stop and listen… you’re going to miss some astounding advice from the Universe.
The Universe is whispering to you right now.
Take some time, take some space—and let yourself listen.
P.S. Join me for four experiential workshops at the Beyond Words Cruise this February.
So many of you tell me you were raised Catholic—from the most casual mass-at-Christmas-and-Easter, to the most devout parochial-school-with-nuns-or-priests.
Nowadays, many of you are still Catholic, or not Catholic at all—or maybe you're not really sure where the formal religion of your childhood intersects with your new spiritual beliefs.
I have my own Catholic experience.
I was raised by non-religious parents who sent me to the local convent—which mean nuns wearing dimples, mass daily, fonts of holy water in the hallway, and statues of St. Frances Assisi everywhere.
Lots of folks didn't have great experiences at Catholic schools, but I did. I converted to Catholicism as an adult, and practiced for many years until my near-death-experience—when everything changed.
In any case, I am familiar with the Easter energy that many of us are feeling now.
Easter Week is hugely emotional: Maundy Thursday is somber and incredibly sad. Good Friday brings hope. Easter Vigil, which begins Saturday night and at the parish I use to attend, included a blazing bonfire, a swinging vessel of incense... and many, many (did I say many?) hours later, the baptism of all new members of the church in water and chrism. Easter begins during the wee hours of the vigil, and continues on till morning.
If you have these Easter memories hardwired into your system, you're going to be feeling stuff this week, whether you want to or not.
Religion has been wonderful for many people.
Religion has wounded many others.
We each have our own experience.
But it all comes back, every spring.
For me, what's best it to acknowledge that the energy swirling around us this week is there, and it affects us.
So just feel it... feel it all... and let your feelings be released.
Then take a look around you.
Today, the daffodils are out, and very soon the tulips will be here.
And be in awe.
When we have just finished working through a soul lesson, the Universe will often show up with a series of “tests” to make sure we’re really, really done.
For example, if you’ve had difficulty saying “no” to people in the past, but now you’re pretty sure you’ve mastered this lesson… well, right around the time you’re feeling confident, the Universe is going to jump in and send you several people in quick succession that you will have to say “no” to.
“Why are all these people showing up that I have to say “no" to all of a sudden?” you'll wonder.
It will seem so odd, so coincidental, so not random: these people streaming in from all over, all of who require “no” from you.
If you’ve truly mastered this lesson, you’ll be able to say “no” in detached way, and this will be the end of the matter.
If you’re still shaky, if you haven’t quite mastered the lesson, you will find yourself having trouble, agonizing over your decision, maybe saying “yes” by mistake… and the Universe will be clear that you need a bit more work on this particular lesson.
We are tested and tested until we can test out.
If you notice a lot of “repeats” in your life, pay attention. The Universe is testing you to see what soul lessons you’ve mastered, and which ones you’re still working on.
Certainly, no failure.
We’re all in this together, each of us doing the best we can.
Years ago, a friend stayed with us. A deeply spiritual man, he’d lived in devotional communities almost his whole life, and we had many lively discussions about what it meant to live a spiritual life.
At the time I was very busy trying to meditate and write and record, and I was also really busy trying to doeveryday family things like drive kids to dance rehearsal and music and oversee homework and pack lunches and make dinner and do the laundry and all the other bazillion things every person on the Householder path does all day long.
Our friend noticed all this, and suggested: "You know, you should become a guru, he said. "That way you’d have lots of people to help you."
"If you started an ashram," he continued, "you’d have people to do the yard work. You’d have people to cook. You’d have people to help you every moment of the day."
I looked at him, not sure if he was joking or not. Then I started laughing, because if there’s one thing I know, I'm not anybody's guru!
I’m not anti-guru: If it works for you to follow a teacher, to live in community, then go do that.
But for me to hold this role? For one thing, I’m not suited to the task.
For another, I believe we’re all gurus.
I believe, we each have the ability to create our own direct connection with the Divine, no middle man required.
If your spiritual practice has been lax, reaffirm it now. Connect to Light. Be led by nothing else. Direct connection: you in communion with the Universe, no middle man reuqired, is your master key.
P.S. Be a part of the The 33 Lessons as we begin the New Year.
In 2008, one of the most remarkable experiences of my life happened.
I received The 33 Lessons: a complete work of teachings on soul growth, in channeled writing.
The receiving took several months, in which I sat in meditation with eyes closed and laptop open, and received from three guides: Constance, Miriam and Gabriel.
This work eventually was published in my first book, Writing the Divine.
Every year, I invite folks to work through The 33 Lessons as a personal spiritual retreat: the Lessons are profound, and they open up things inside of you that are ready to be opened.
This is a 33-day course, delievered to your inbox. It's low cost, and on sliding scale.
If you haven't explored The 33 Lessons yet, I invite you to consider using them as personal spiritual retreat, as we begin the New Year.

P.S. My 2017 Forecast: Begin Again, is out and ready. Take a look!
The longest night of the year is here.
Darkness turns to Light.
We begin again.
Our soul journey continues.
Listen to your FREE Winter Solstice meditation below.
Feel free to share with your friends.
There will come a magical moment this winter, when you will see something, or you will experience something, and your heart will quietly unfold.
Everything will become sacred, holy, still.
And in this moment, in which you are not doing anything in particular, not having any big experience, something will shift and you will understand yourself as soul in body, Divine being having human experience.
It might show up as part of your religious tradition.
It might be a secular moment.
It might happen with family.
It might happen in community.
You might be by yourself.
This is a moment between the moments: a time when you observe yourself being your true soul Self.
It doesn't matter how this moment between moments finds you.
It just matters that when it does, you stop, allow it, and let it open you.
P.S. NEW DailyOM course: Open Yourself to Your Guides & Angels.
For several years, we lived with our lovely, joyous dog, Elton.
He was a Bichon, which means he was small and white and fluffy; a fancy dog living in a rustic environment, and he needed constant protection from the eagles and coyote that live out here in the woods.
Elton saw us through many life events, from my youngest daughter’s scoliosis surgery, to the passing of my husband’s mother, to many other trying times in our lives: we were much comforted by the generous spirit of this loving little dog.
And then one day, he started walking funny, and the next day he couldn’t walk, and we discovered Elton had spinal degeneration, a problem so far advanced, surgery wasn’t an option.
For a month he got better, and then he got worse. He lost the ability to walk, his pain started to increase, and we knew the end needed to come.
And so it was that at 2:00 a.m., on a black stormy night in October, Elton’s pain crescendo’ed to a point where it was no longer bearable.
The trees waved in the wind, thunder rolled and lightening flashed practically on top of us as I drove across town to the emergency vet. as if the Universe was showing me my pain.
The vet was kind, and things went quickly. Elton was wrapped in a warm towel, and I held him close, my mind in sync with his.
Thank you, my friend, I said. Thank you.
And then, at the moment of his passing, something happened.
His soul leapt out at me.
I don’t know how to explain it better.
His eyes were locked on me, and in the moment of his transition a light leapt out of him, and it was pure love.
I don’t have more words for this, I can’t explain it better.
It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
P.S. NEW DailyOM course: Open Yourself to Your Guides & Angels.
You might already self-identify as a psychic, intuitive, empath, sensitive... a seeker on the path of awakening, who uses the tools of spiritual intuition.
Maybe you're learned to speak the language of the Universe so fluently, ALL of these names might fit you!
Name doesn't matter. What's important is this:
Spiritual intuition is a practice you can LEARN.
It's like having an affinity for drawing, or music... you start with a natural ability, and then as you practice and learn, you get better and better, until your skill level is very high.
Browse this website, and you'll find a complete library of resources for studying intuition as a spiritual practice: written teachings, audio recordings, video, self-study courses offered on a sliding scale, and small group training.
As you begin, you'll find yourself changing and growing in unexpected ways.
Here 7 keys for walking the path of spiritual intuition:
1. Commit to soul growth as your highest path, your deepest desire.
2. Let go of everything you think should happen.
3. Slow down, so you can actually hear the Universe.
4. Understand that this work will bring up all of your "stuff".
5. Trust that guides, angels, saints and Holy Ones are real.
6. Accept that they will help you in ways you might have trouble believing. .
6. Trust the Universe/God/Divine/One/All.
7. Make room for miracles and surprises!
Where to start?
Connecting with the guides, of course!
As many of you know, I’m not a fan of Law of Attraction.
Before some of you send comments disagreeing with me, hear me out:
It's not that Law of Attraction isn't real: it is. The Universe is continually working to bring us exactly what our heart calls for.
But so often how we USE Law of Attraction is either incorrect, or coming from ego instead of heat.
This idea of treating the Universe as one big letter to Santa? It's not what we're here for.
Think back to when you wrote your Santa wish list when you were six, seven, nine… well, you probably put a lot of things on that list that you didn’t really need, or didn’t even want.
You wanted stuff that all the other kids wanted
You wanted stuff you’d break the very first day.
You wanted stuff, just because everyone told you you should want stuff.
And maybe… you didn’t even want stuff at all.
Maybe, you were pretty happy with what you had and used already.
This idea of want-get, want-get… it was being trained into you.
The Law of Attraction is often misused as want-get, want-get, an endless cycle of never being happy with who you are and how you live right NOW… always searching for the new, the better, the bigger.
For me, it feels much better to not ask. To not make my wish list to the Universe, and instead to let the Divine choose. To let the Universe lead.
I believe we’re each here for our own unique destiny, and if we show up in full service to this destiny, it’s pretty hard… no, it’s impossible… for us to miss it.
If we’re here for a reason, for a purpose, for a calling… all we need to do is show up and move in that direction… and the Universe will take care of all the rest.
This asking for specifics: the car, the money, the partner… gosh… why do we think we know what we want now, any better than we did back when we were making our Santa list?
We get the car, and it only satisfies for a brief moment.
We get the money, and we immediately want more.
We get the partner, then we try to change him or her.
Hmmm… it seems to me that asking: this constant grasping for what we think we should have, doesn’t really make us happy.
Instead, we can simply not ask.
We can pay attention, and allow ourselves to be led, in all of ways the Universe leads us every minute of every day.
We attract our destiny, when we show up to who we really are.
P.S. It's time to sign up for small group training Fall 2016.
From time to time, I come under assault from folks who think I’m aligned with the dark because I’m a channel.
Some of these emails are downright scary, filled with fear and shame and accusations…
And the thing is, this isn’t what I do. I don’t support the occult, the dark forces in any way, and I very much hope you don’t either.
This dabbing in energy that is dark is no laughing matter. It’s real energy; it really exists. You can get into a lot of psychic trouble, without proper discernment.
And yet, at the same time, these attacks on me in the name of Jesus, religiosity…. they don’t seem very Light at all.
They seem stuck in the old fear, the old superstitions, the old religions that taught us there was only one right way to spiritual enlightenment.
I believe there are many ways.
I believe there are many paths.
I believe there are many spiritual practices, and this may well include a close relationship to Jesus, if that resonates with you.
Jesus, and all of the holy ones: the master teachers, the master gurus and saints, the voices of God/One/All/Divine/Source/Universe? All of these can be found, by leaning to the Light.
I can’t tell you how to live.
But I will say: I don’t dabble in dark.
Why fuss with the grey, dank, dusty, occult stuff in the corner of the room, when you can shine the Divine flashlight and illuminate everything?
Keep turning to Light, with whatever name you call it, in prayer, in mediation, in the deep longing of your heart, and you will notice your life getting better, your relationships getting easer, your mind getting more peaceful, your whole being, elevating and vibrating higher and higher.
P.S. Get my new book Daily Divine: Messages From a Loving Universe.
The single MOST important spiritual tool you can have is direct connection with the Universe.
Direct connection is a two-way communication between you and God/One/All/Divine/Source or whatever name you use.
The Universe is vast, and does not always speak to us in the language we can interpret easily.
But our Guides and Angels are clear translators of Universal messages.
They are clear mentors, ready to assist us with our daily and spiritual lives 24/7.
If you don't know how to speak this langue yet, I implore you to learn.
Having this particular skill and technique available to you will begin to change your life in ways that you can't even imagine.
It's not hard to learn.
But there is a very specific choreography of the Guides& Angels. There is a very specific way that these etheric beings communicate with us via symbol, vision, message, emotion, knowing.
• It's not 11:11, 2:22 or 3:33
• It's much more than angel cards
• It's much more than casually talking to your guides and angels
• It's different than prayer
• It's different than meditation
• It's different than yoga
• It's different than nature
Now is a great time to begin this skill, because come this fall, there will be new courses to take you even further. If you have the basics under your belt now, it will be that much easier.
If you'd like to learn to speak this language, sign up for Be a Divine Conduit for Your Guides & Angels now, in partnership wiht DailyOM.
Pay-what-you-want sliding scale!
P.S. If you want to go REALLY, REALLY deep into this understanding, I invite you to sign up for small group training this fall, and work directly with me. Registration has just opened.
This morning, at about 4 a.m., I was awakened from a very deep and mystical dream to hear the explosive sound of branches breaking.
This wasn’t a small branch, dead wood suddenly tossed down by the wind.
This was big branch, the enormous, shuddering creaking of major limb or even whole trunk, cracking apart from itself and crashing down into the woods.
For a brief moment, after the booming crash, there was silence. In fact, in that silence, as I groggily tried to orient myself to what was going on, I wondered if I was dreaming.
But then instantly, the chatter and screams of all kinds of birds: either heralding the shift in the forest hierarchy, or misplaced from their home, crying in confusion that they had been uprooted.
Changes in our lives sometimes seem to happen this way. One minute we’re asleep, or lost in dreams or daydreams or distractions, and then CRACK, there is a shift in the field, a tree is down, a major limb is lost and all around us the beep of birds goes off like a car alarm that won’t quit.
This particular breaking branch, fallen tree, wasn’t too near. From the sounds of it, perhaps a hundred feet away. I walked out into the woods this morning to find it, but everything was a green tangle I would guess as I walk further into the ferny glades, the break will reveal itself.
The break didn’t affect me too much… or did it? We live in a unified field. A tree one hundred feet away that breaks at 4:00 am, unexpectedly, out of the blue… this was a wakeup for me, literally. And whenever there is a literal wakeup, there is also a spiritual one.
We don’t always understand these signs of nature. I don’t understand yet, what the breaking branch means; I don’t understand what part of my life it applies to, what message I mean to receive, what I meant to understand.
What I think now, is that I am guided to understand that things happen all around us, even when we sleep. We’re part of the energy of everything. My own waking up, in shock, on alert, when the tree broke, and my own waking up further with the birds calling… I remember that I am a part of this forest too.
Even 100 feet away, in a house, in a bed; I am still part of this forest, I am still part of this unified field, I am still part of this nature community that surrounds me.
The unified field contains us all: all soul, all time, all space, all matter. What affects one, affects One. Even a breaking tree, affects the field around it.
Sometimes we find ourselves on the brink of facing something we’d really rather not face.
We might have to face a person we have conflict with.
We might have to face a situation that brings up old stuff.
We might have to go to a place that brings up old wounds.
We might have to be in an environment that triggers us.
When you find yourself heading toward an experience that is going to be a soul lesson, it is common to feel a lot of negative feelings.
You might feel cranky.
You might start blaming others.
You might get mad.
You might panic.
You might want to run away.
You might shut down.
And sometimes, if the situation or experience or person is about to really push our buttons from the past, if it’s about to really make you feel or remember the big wounds we haven’t cleared up yet, we can get very angry, scared and resistant to this situation.
In our resistance to looking at our past pain, we may lash out at others.
Most of us have done this many times in our lives: it is normal to not want to experience pain!
However, whenever you notice yourself being triggered, take a moment and resist the urge to lash out, fight back, run away or shut down.
Instead, accept the reality that you have come face to face with at lesson: the Universe is inviting you to clear your fear, release your anger, let go of your panic, stand your ground.
You’re being presented with this lesson, because you’re ready to learn it.
And… resistance is futile.
If you don’t learn it now, no worries. You will be presented with this same lesson, in this lifetime and in all future lifetimes, until finally, you as soul move through it.
If you can surrender to your lesson now, wonderful.
If you just can’t do it now… there will be time later.
We are infinite souls, in infinite state of expansion via the human heart.
Sometimes we get overly excited at the start of a venture.
We buy the book.
We sign up for the class,
We join the retreat.
We reserve the event..
We’re SO excited!
And then, when we enter into the experience, all the buzzy excitement and impulsive “yes, yes, yes” goes away.
We suddenly don’t feel great.
Our excitement fades.
We are faced with the fact that we are here to do our work, and maybe we don’t really feel like doing our work, after all.
All the buzzy, excited “yes” of anticipation may turn to dread, overwhelm, even resistance or anger when we are faced with the actual book, class, course, retreat, program or event.
If you find yourself getting grumpy, wanting to quit, blaming the teacher, getting angry about a course or class, feeling like nothing’s working, feeling like it’s not a fit… take a look deeper.
It’s likely that you’re afraid of what you’re going to find when you enter in.
It’s likely that you’re scared of what you might discover.
Soul work requires vulnerability.
You have to let the Universe in, if you want to change.
Soul work also requires time.
One book or class or course isn’t going to do the trick. The best teacher in the Universe can’t solve your whole life. No program will fix everything and make it all better.
It’s all a process.
Inner work can take years. In fact, most of us find it takes decades.
So… Don’t look for the quick fix. It doesn’t exist.
We open and expand at the pace we are ready.
There is no proper timing. There is only your timing.
