Today’s Daily Divine is from Messages from the Divine: Wisdom for the Seeker's Soul.
“When you are aware for even a moment, when you spend even a moment in consciousness, you begin to feel differently about everything.
About your life.
About your situation.
About your circumstance.
About your Self.”
A few days ago, Uranus entered Taurus—a significant planetary shift that we haven't seen in 84 years, since 1934.
Almost on cue, the Hawaiian volcano began to erupt and spew, and is still in the process of a very earthly Taurean reaction.
And yet also in the air there is a different kind of grounding—expressed surprisingly by the royal wedding.
All that tradition—very Taurean—is today a world focus. It's the traditional marriage of two very non traditional people.
It's a sign of hope, a symbol of what can be at the start of this 7 year journey.
For the next 7 years, regardless of your chart, we are going to have significant change, personally and collectively. So much so, that I would say we will not recognize ourselves, when we reach 2024.
Personally and collectively, we'll have evolved and—as Taurus dictates—grounded.
Here is a easy ritual to set intention for the coming shift:
• Think back to who you were in 2011 when Uranus was in Aries. Picture yourself in your mind's eye, and see yourself back then.
• Recall all the major milestones you experienced in those 7 years—use your journal to help you remember.
• Expect that the next 7 years will bring the same level of change, but this time with the grounded energy of Taurus, not the warrior-like energy of Aries.
• Connect with what your biggest, vastest, most expanded dreams are for the next 7 years. Again, use your journal to write them down.
• Understand that whatever your heart desires, is what the Universe is bringing to you.
• When you are clear on what your heart desires, write it in your journal as a ritual of intention.
• Meditate on this, and allow the Universe to bring you more information.
Long before you were born, your soul had decided who your mother would be.
Some of us chose lovely mothers.
Others, not so much.
However, each of us chose the exact mother we required to bring us to this point today, on Mother's Day 2018, to be having the feelings, realizations, understandings, longings, sorrows, joys and releasings that we are having today.
In other words, we chose the mother who would provide us with the soul lessons we agreed to.
In my own experience as a mother of three children and a step-son, now all adults, my belief is that mothers are here to protect and mentor their children. Their job is to make sure they get to independence as wholly and authentically as they can.
However, that's just my belief.
Your belief of what it means to be a mother, whether you are a mother or step mother or not—may be different than mine.
Your mother's belief of what it means to be a mother or step mother—may all be very different than mine or yours.
This is because all souls are working on different lessons at different times, and thus we don't have to all agree that Mother's Day is a Hallmark card, or a brunch, or breakfast-in-bed.
We can be thankful—or not.
We can be grateful—or not.
We can be angry—or not.
We can miss them when then transition—or not.
Whatever you are feeling today, on this day that is absolutely LOADED with mainstream sentiment, is okay.
Just be with it, feel it, and if it feels like too much, you have the option to opt out and do something else.
We are all learning exactly the soul lessons we're here to learn. You don't have to worry that you're doing it wrong, or you're not getting what you need, or that your experience is different than others.
Your soul knows the way. Feel what you feel, and keep going.
“You must know that it is possible to lock into the hum and feel the consciousness of the Universe at all times.
“Never before have we in this realm been able to use the methodology of writing as a tool to reach so many people.
A lot of us suffer from anxiety—either the chronic kind we've had since we were children, or the now-and-then kind we get from being part of a stresssful, fast-paced life.
I like to think of the chronic kind as a gift: it is a deep sensitivity that allows us to feel everything, all the time. It is a sign of being monumentally in tune with all of the energies, even if this sometimes leads to overwhelm.
The now-and-then kind seems to affect even the most grounded souls: life is busy, there are a lot of things pulling at us. It is easy to lose sight of our clear path and get pulled by all the things calling to us, and this creates overwhelm.
If you are experiencing anxiety, there are two solutions. Try one, and if that one doesn't work, try the other one.
One of them will always work.
The first solution is to DO: anxiety is about us getting out of our heads and the cycling thought loops that keep us locked in that thought pattern.. When we begin to DO: walk, swim, run, move, shift, look away, breathe, hug, cry, read, paint... the thought cycle is broken. Any action or doing that takes us even for a moment out of the thought cycle, will break the pattern of anxiety.
The second solution is to BE: anxiey is also about getting us out of our constant stream of busyness, that leads to us not being able to sustain a pace that is enjoyable and comforting. If you are doing too much: too busy, too many activities, too many people, too many deadlines—just STOP DING.. Start becoming still, turning inward, and letting all those demands and clamor and busyness simply fade away.
After all, the world spins on, whether we get to our "to do" list or not.
Try solution one: doing.
If that doesn't work, try solution two: being.
One of them will work, every time.
Remember, with anxiety, the answer is to break the chain of looping thoughts, either by DOING or by BEING. Interrupt the pattern. You'll get clearer and clearer, every time you do.
It is a beautiful new year.
A whole new page to turn.
And whether we’re making resolutions or un-resolutions, we can recognize one thing about 2018:
We are definitely going to fail.
We’re going to mess up.
We’re going to screw up,
We’re going to make mistakes.
We’re going to be brilliant in our ability to fail!
The thing is: We’re raised with the idea that failing is a mistake, or some kind of reflection of our worth.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
In essence, failure is growing.
Failure is the sign that we have stretched past a limit.
Failure is a sign that we are actively expanding.
Every day in our soul growth, we overreach ourselves: we fail, we fall. But this is not a bad thing!
Failure is a sign of a soul in expansion.
Fail, try, fall, try again. This is how we learn soul lessons.
It is a great thing to free yourself from the idea of failure as “bad” and simply to accept that failure means we are growing.
Especially as we start a new year.
As we discussed in our 2018 Forecast, this is an "11" year.
Don't be fooled by the further chaos, trickery, and general darkness of politics and big business. The world will continue to spin and turn.
However, this year YOU have the option to opt out from the drama.
It doesn't mean hide.
It doesn't mean not stand up for Light.
But as an "11" year, this is your year to focus on intution, spirituality, and discovering the radiant, inner you—in essence, to become acquainted with you as soul.
Remember: what affects one affects the One.
As you do your inner work—as we all do our inner work—everything changes.
There isn't a particular way to do this. But I would certainly invite you to opt out from all resolutions that are punitive, fear-based, group thought, formed around the idea of "not enough", and based on the idea that outer change matters.
Only inner change matters. In 2018. And forever.
You as soul: this is the part that needs attention now.
Let go of the "resolutions", the puritanical and punitive group thought that says you're not enough.
You are already whole.
Nothing needs fixing.
Take a deep breath and feel the bliss of everything, connect with that over and over again, as often as you can, and let your true self emerge.
2018 is the year in which we begin to have an unshakeable awareness of the new paradigm.
We aren't starting anything.
It's already begun.
The new paradigm is here now.
And we FINALLY understand FOR SURE that things are actually different.
Here's a few things that are emerging in 2018:
1. 2018 is an "11" year. 11 in numerology is a Master number. This number relates to intuition, intuitive opening, spirituality, spiritual awakening and enlightment,
That gives you an idea of what 2018 is all about, personally and collectively.
The new year calls us to claim our awakening.
2. 2018 is The Year of the Woman. The #metoo movement achieves tipping point. This means that women aren't just "demanding" their rights or accusing their predators and bullies. Now, they are suddenly unshakeably clear that the equality they have sought has been there all along.
It's always been there—but women have believed the dominant paradigm that has told women that they were less than. Now, that paradigm has shifted. We see clearly that the old paradigm was wrong, and it's over. When half of the population wakes up, there is a change in the mainstream reality.
The dominant culture continues to crumble, as it meets resistance in the places it once dominated. At home, where women claim equality with those they are intimate relationship to. In business leadership, where women step up for equal power and rewards. In human rights, where women rise up and support each other, across all ages, races and cultures. In political leadership, where women, especially those under 40, suddenly look around and say not just #metoo, but #whynotme?
Women start claiming their true power, and the world changes.
2. 2018 is The Year of Human Rights. Women's awareness supports the efforts of all other marginalized groups in the U.S. and third world countries.
Genderism, culturalism, nationalism—all of these start to crumble, as collective soul begins to shout "why do we think we're separate, because we're not?"
This doesn't mean racism or other "isms" is over yet. There is a still a great of work to be done, and these concepts are still very new in many countries. But it means that #nomore is the leading energy.
Our collective awareness has increased to the point where a large majority, even those who were on the fence or trying not to be involved, see clearly that racism etc is an idea we've grown past.
4. Social media opens us to Oneness. Yes, we all know about fake news, trolls and bullies. But if you are hooked into the steady stream of ONENESS that is also flowing through the feeds, you see that there is a very positive energy, a positive and human resistance to the dark that is getting louder and stronger everyday.
Choose light. Send light. Stream light. What you focus on--what we focus on—is what arrives into our reality.
5. We crack the code on darkness. Up until now, we've been naive little lambs, but we finally get it! We finally crack the code on how all the bullies and perpetrators and misogynists and narcissists work to throw us into confusion and chaos.
This is on a personal level, such as in your personal relationships, and at the highest political levels, which is obvious. Have you cracked the code yet?
Remember, dark forces seek to control attention. They manipulate by a constant stream of chaos: drama and darkness and one so-called crisis after the next. We finally crack the code, and then we decide to opt out. The moment we turn away from drama an chaos, our reality changes.
6. We are called to show up. It is no longer okay to hide out, pretend not to notice, live in the bubble or pull the covers over our head. When you understand Oneness, you understand there is no separation. We are all creating the reality of collective soul.
This is the year to stand up for what is right: inclusion, compassion, support, love. When we do this, the entire collective is lifted.
If this makes you uncomfortable, sit with that feeling and do it anyway.
This is a year you must choose between dark or Light, contraction or expansion. You can't stand on the sidelines, sitting this one out. The Universe asks you to choose, engage, participate, speak up and support.
Even if it makes you feel uncomfortable.
7. It's easier to change. The energy of 2018 moves faster. This means we can change faster, if we want to. For example, if you always had trouble losing weight, in 2018 this will be very simple for you. Your belief about yourself has changed, and your body receives this communication at the cellular level.
Old habits are easy to drop in 2018. You simply step into a new understanding of yourself, and your habits shift to fit this new understanding.
8. Manifesting is simpler. Things happen faster in the new paradigm: you can create faster, you can create on a bigger scale. It's all just easier.
This is the new energy, the new Flow. Think big this year, and in the years to come. The Universe is listening. Allow yourself to belief in the new reality, because it is here, and all you have to do is step into it.
There will come a magical moment this holiday season, perhaps even today, when you will see something, or you will experience something, and your heart will quietly unfold.
Everything will become sacred, holy, still.
And in this moment, in which you are not doing anything in particular, not having any big experience, something will shift and you will understand yourself as soul in body, Divine being having human experience.
It might show up as part of your religious tradition.
It might be a secular moment.
It might happen with family.
It might happen in community.
You might be by yourself.
This is a moment between the moments: a time when you observe yourself being your true soul Self.
It doesn't matter how this moment between moments finds you.
It just matters that when it does, you stop, allow it, and let it open you.
Wishing you and yours a day filled with all that is sacred, holy, still. Where all is calm and bright. And your hearts are overflowing.
The longest night of the year is here.
Darkness turns to Light.
We begin again.
Our soul journey continues.

There is a lot of confusion about living in the Now.
If we live in the Now, does that mean we forget our past? Does that mean we stop planning for our future?
Living in the present moment means being aware of all times: past, present, future, and understanding that we inhabit all times simultaneously.
So, when you are thinking of the past, what you are actually doing, is going to the past and having the past, that particular parallel Universe or simultaneous reality, happen to you Now.
If you are planning for the future, what you are actually doing is going to that future possibility, that particular parallel Universe or simultaneous reality, and you are having that future happen to you Now.
There is no difference.
Past. Present. Future.
All simultaneous and instantaneous.
Whatever you’re thinking about: memory or possibility, is where you really are being Now
One way to focus on present reality or present Now, is to consider what your body is experiencing.
When we are walking in the woods and our minds wander to the past or future, we can recall our present reality by returning to the body: feeling the air on our skin, seeing the sun slant through the trees.
It isn’t wrong to think of the past, or plan for the future.
Sliding through all the timelines is a very valid way to live.
However, to be in the present moment is extremely enjoyable: to drop out of past and future thought, and simply pay exquisite attention to the magic that is right in front of us.
There are times in each person’s life when everything is going well: things come relativity easily, and there is an abiding sense of joy.
Those perfect days, when you’re sailing down the river of life without even needing to paddle—this is Flow state.
Whenever things are easy, effortless, joyous, you know you are in flow. And whenever you’re in Flow, you’re on the right path.
When you’re not in Flow: when things are stick, tricky, chaotic and dramatic, you are being asked to look at how you are moving in the world.
Another approach is better.
Easy, effortless, joyful, calm… these are the emotions of being on the right path.
If you aren’t sure where you are headed, or if everything seems confusing, or if you know you’re going somewhere but you don’t know how to get there…check your Flow state.
Do whatever’s easiest.
Do whatever’s effortless.
Don’t do anything and see what happens.
Wait for further instructions.
Totally let go of outcome, and let the Universe lead.
Flow state always trumps blocked states, as change is our way of being. Choose what’s easy, effortless and joyful, and let go of the need to push the river.
The Universe has things well in hand.
We don’t need to manifest miracles. We simply need to notice them as they show up.
Billions of miracles are happening in every moment; when we begin to pay exquisite attention to absolutely everything, we soon see our life is miracle-filled.
Our mind/personality ego may think it wants or needs a specific miracle to make us happy, but this is not so.
When we open to the miracle of every moment—really open to it—we are filled with a sense of grace and wonder.
The simple act of noticing Now will fill us completely.
Remember: you don’t have to notice Now in the present moment only. Now also includes the past, such as with memories and remembrance, and the future, such as what we are dreaming, manifesting and creating.
It’s always Now: wherever we put our consciousness is our Now.
So if you aren’t sure what you’re trying to create as a miracle, you can go back into past, or forward into future, and see what informs you there.
Many times, the miracles have been building in our lives for a long time: when we stop, and look back at where we have been and we are not, the pattern becomes clear.
Bliss is a vibrational state; it is a state of awareness.
We speak about the Universe having particular layers and levels of dimensionality, and we can enter these at will.
The bliss state is no different—it is a dimensional state we can enter.
For example, when we begin to hold attention to every little thing, we begin to feel wonder and gratitude, and in this way, we begin to experience bliss—we cross the veil from the dimension of pain and distraction, to the dimension of bliss.
When we allow ourselves to go there, we can really be in this vibration all the time.
Some days, it is very hard to stop smiling!
And then other days, it’s not so easy. We have to remind ourselves: my dimensional state is a choice. I can choose what dimension I’m in, or not in. I can shift my dimensional state at will.
In other words, even when things are not going as we’d like, we can still seek the vibrational state of bliss.
Does it seem Polyanna to you? Always looking on the bright side?
But that isn’t it at all.
We’re not trying to negate the negative, or claim that everything is always perfect. Of course it’s not.
We’re just noticing: there are may be vibrational states, and I get to choose at every moment, what state I want to experience.
Try choosing bliss, more often.
You will not be disappointed.
We have this tendency to label something as “good” or something as “bad.”
But in reality, if there were no challenges to work through, we wouldn’t grow very much.
The “bad” things are like the stone in our shoe that keeps irritating us as we walk on our path: it bothers us and bothers us and bothers us, until we finally stop, take off our shoe and take a long, hard look at the problem.
When we look at the problem, instead of avoiding it, we get clear.
This is where growth happens.
If we are in the middle of a rough patch, where there is a lot of pain, chaos, drama—maybe we need to look at how we are approaching our lives, maybe we need to make changes.
Or sometimes we’re very present in our lives, and bad things happens anyway. Why is this?
The soul answer is that everything is a lesson that moves us to greater expansion.
Everything is an opportunity to expand further in our understanding.
And yet the human answer is that it’s very hard to be grateful when bad things happen.
If you can’t find gratitude at the moment, just feel what you feel. It is enough to be authentic for now. When, over time, you look back and recognize the lesson you were being taught, the gratitude will come of its own accord.
When you feel relaxed, peaceful and joyous, you are feeling connected to Spirit.
When you feel stressed, fearful, angry, you are feeling separate.
Feeling good is connected.
Feeling pain is separate.
If you find yourself in negative emotional states or thought loops, use the breath to bring you home: close your eyes, breath in through the nose and out through the mouth ten times, until you relax again.
In through the nose.
Out through the mouth.
Try it now, and watch as that swoony, expanded, relaxed state comes over you.
It feels good, doesn’t it? It’s really quite hard to even remember what you felt so miserable about? Even on the breath, you have been transported to a new dimensional reality, a new realignment of yourself, a connection to Spirit that takes you to a new realm and a new reality.
Stay there, breathing, until the relaxation and peace of Spirit is clear to you once again.
The breath is always a true bridge to Spirit—you can always use it to enter a connected state.
Any place, any time… the breath will always take you there.
P.S. Books make wonderful gifts. See the offerings here!
Some people approach well-being through the body, with nutrition, exercise and health practices.
Other people approach well-being through experiences: travel and adventure.
Others approach well-being through the heart: deep intimate connection.
Still others find well-being via the soul: in prayer, meditation, creativity.
Still others avoid well-being altogether: they participate in all kinds of “bad” habits, “bad” practices, addictions and so forth.
And… all of these are okay.
Whatever path you’re doing right now, is exactly as it should be.
You learn soul lessons from having discipline and being “good.”
You learn soul lessons from having no discipline and being “bad.”
You learn soul lesson from being asleep, and not knowing you’re asleep.
You learn soul lessons from being awake, and knowing that you'll wake up more.
Everyone is seem wired a little differently as to how they best experience well-being: body, experiences, heart, soul. Pay attention to what makes you happy, what makes you feel the most free, what makes you smile.
That’s where you’ll find the particular spiritual habits that help you feel best.
Spirituality is the practice of seeking God/One/All/Divine/Universe/Source in all things.
It is the recognition that we are more than our minds, bodies and to-do lists; we are expanding infinite souls in an expanding infinite Universe.
To be a spiritual person, to focus on spirituality as a life’s path, is to begin to live from your soul’s perspective.
There aren’t any rules.
There aren’t any practices.
It’s you and your soul, figuring it out together.
It's you and collective soul, figuring it out together.
You can be spiritual within any religion, or you can opt out of religion and create a practice of your own. There are many paths to spirituality, but only one mountain to climb.
We each must walk our own path.
No matter how long it takes—everything leads to the Divine.
P.S. Have you seen Sara's latest books and ebooks?
It’s easy to get distracted by a whole lot of things that don’t matter; when we attach to a trance of distraction, scarcity, numbness.
Yet when we do connect in to the Universe, it’s as dazzling as a lightening bolt or a wave of light.
Spiritual knowing is instantaneous. There is no lag time or delay in knowing. One minute we are a sleep, and the next, in a flash, we are awake and aware.
In this moment, we recognize our true selves, we understand what is really important, we open in love and connection.
Physically, in meditation, spiritual opening can feel like your mind space goes from grey and tamped down in misery, to a great lifting off in dazzling white.
Physically, in nature, spiritual opening can feel like your mind space is all chatter and drama, and then suddenly everything gets beautifully still, and you realize you are absolutely aware.
There are other ways spiritual opening can happen, but there is always a sense of being one way, in misery. And then suddenly the great opening, the great relief, the great lifting off.
If you are feeling disconnected, the best thing to do is let go of all distractions: all ways of being too busy, all ways of numbing out, all of the various addictions we all have in modern life.
Go into stillness, and ask the Universe to remind you who you really are.
Separation is a myth—there is no time we are not One.
P.S. Be a part of our virtual retreat for the holidays, Entering Stillness: A Winter's Retreat.
When people talk about energy being “blocked,” they mean energy is not flowing.
We think of energy as physical, energetic or emotional.
But they are all the same.
For humans, the body is a physical container of all our emotional experiences, including past wounds and unresolved feelings.
Thus, when we feel blocked, what we are often feeling is emotional blocking.
We are shut down, numbed out, repressed, not allowing ourselves to feel what we feel.
When we allow ourselves to open to what is—to really feel our feelings—this allows us to release that energy; it allows this energy to flow. Both emotionally, and in the physical container.
When we feel blocked—when we feel locked down by our feelings—it is simply a call to feel more.
When the body can release emotional energy, other body systems also become unblocked. Everything’s connected!
It can be scary to feel more. One of the ways this can be looked at is through the view of The Four Passages of the Heart.
The first passage is through pain. This is the place we are in when we feel blocked.
We feel fear, anxiety, stress. We feel that we can’t manage the pain. But of course, the heart can hold everything.
The second passage is compassion: for others and for oneself. Once you have made it from pain to compassion, you have done the hardest part.
The third passage is connection, understanding Oneness. And the four opening is love.
Of course. It’s always love.
If you are feeling blocked or shut down or numbed out, take a look at your Heart of Pain. If you allow yourself to feel more, you will open into the next passage.
Only scary to think about.
Very healing to do.
P.S. We begin Entering Stillness, our Winter Retreat soon. Join us!
What is a soul awakening?
One way to think of it is this: if you experienced a state of expansion in last month's solar eclipse, you've had a soul awakening recently.
Basically, a soul awakening is a state of awareness in which we expand beyond our previous level of consciousness. Whenever this happens—and it happens many times in a lifetime—it is an extraordinarily beautiful experience.
When our awareness opens, everything becomes a miracle: we find it easy to be grateful for every little thing. we experience a bliss state, we’re peaceful and joyous, we’re having fun, and we laugh a lot!
When we’re in a state of soul awakening, guidance from the Universe is clear and direct, and life seems to flow effortlessly.
Here's the thing to remember: soul awakening is an ongoing process. We don’t just awaken once in a lifetime, and that's it! We experience many states of soul awakening as we walk the path of soul growth.
When was the last time you had an awakening? Was it years ago, or was it just a few days—or even minutes—ago. We are always in the process of expansion.
P.S. Learn more about the workshops I'm teaching on the 2018 Beyond Words Cruise.
After my near death experience in 2000, everything changed.
In that moment I knew God, in a way I never had before. And in that moment, my whole life crumbed in front of me, like one of those action movies where the road falls away even as the hero is running on it.
Everything changed. Everything fell away. I began to search and seek. I started going to spiritual workshops and events. I began to try out all kinds of things I’d never done before.
At first it was scary. Nobody in my then circle of soccer moms was going to ecstatic dance, for example. Nobody in my then Catholic community was going to The Esalen Institute. It was weird to be different, outside, ostracized even.
And then, as I found my way, it was exhilarating—there was a feeling of finally finding my tribe, a sense of coming home. What a gift those ecstatic dance and meditation and kirtan and intuitive communities gave me at that time in my life! It was some of the greatest support I have known.
If you need a tribe during a personal shift, it’s available to you.
If you need support during a transformation, it’s here.
The Universe always arranges it so that you will find the people you need.
One of the reasons I'm coming out of hermitage in the Oregon woods to take part in the Beyond Words Cruise this February, is to be in community with you. I remember what is was like to be supported by community. And I know that’s what is going to happen at this event.
If you are going through transition or transformation, if you are feeling stuck or need spiritual support—consider being part of spiritual community.
However you find community—the tribe that support you during transformation—doesn’t matter.
Just make space for it.
The Universe will lead you there.
When we need healing, we sometimes thing there's something wrong with our soul.
However, that's not the case.
Our soul is perfect, infinite, Divine.
What causes our suffering is not that there is something intrinsically wrong with our core.
Instead, it is always our thoughts, our opinions.. all the stuff that makes up personality.
That's where the problem is.
That's what requires an attitude adjustment.
So, how do we do this?
A starting point is to just step back and breathe.
Stop trying to figure it out or fix it.
Stop distracting yourself.
Stop participating in thought drama.
Instead, step back.
Get some retreat, rest and respite.
Have some fun, laughter, nature—any or all of these will create the shift.
When we stop thought drama and do something else, the soul has a chance to integrate all our worrisome emotions, and return to a state of calm—the natural state, in which the soul leads, and the ego is secondary.
When we provide intentional space for rest and relaxation, as well as the healing qualities of nature and fun, we make exponential leaps in our soul growth.
Don't think too much about it. Just try it: letting go, taking a break, having some fun. And see where that leads you.
A while back I posted Part One of my adventures with spirit animals. Today is Part Two.
On my last bike ride, I was unexpectedly gifted with a sighting of three young raccoons. I was still giddy with the thrill of it, when something else happened.
The Universe was not done with surprises for the day.
If you are person who lives near Nature, you already know: Nature is very much around us. It is not just that we live in these homes or apartments, and we have these fences or boundaries, and Nature doesn’t come in and interact with us.
Nature is here! Animals are everywhere!
Animals, insects, flora, trees, the wind and weather!
Nature is with us always!
Thus, after seeing the three raccoons, I continued on my bike ride. And sure enough, there it was on the next curve: my second sighting of a spirit animal in the course of 10 minutes: a young deer, blocking the path.
Deer is my totem animal, so I certainly paid attention!
Some of the questions I ask when visited by a totem animal are:
• Is it strong or weak?
• Young or old?
• What other physical conditions?
• What is it doing?
• What was I thinking about when I saw it?
• What question was I working on when I saw it?
• What came into my mind when I saw it?
I slowed my bike to a standstill and instantly noticed another woman across from me. So there I am, 20 feet from the deer on one side, the woman 20 feet on the other side, and the deer in the middle of the path.
And all of us froze.
The woman and I both went into some kind of reverie for the deer, because we both know: it was a holy moment, a message from the Universe, a sacred sighting.
Normally a deer this close, even a deer familiar with humans, would have turned and leapt away in that flashing, bounding way that deer do.
But this deer just watched us watching it, and then it started chewing grass on the side of the path.
It was fully conscious of us.
It was fully aware of us.
And it was not afraid.
What a beautiful message to receive, in these woods on this bike path, in witness by another human being!
Fully conscious. No fear.
And after a very, very long while, the mood shifted. The moment was complete. You can feel this, if you pay attention: the vibration just changes, and there it is.
