The single MOST important spiritual tool you can have is direct connection with the Universe.
Direct connection is a two-way communication between you and God/One/All/Divine/Source or whatever name you use.
The Universe is vast, and does not always speak to us in the language we can interpret easily.
But our Guides and Angels are clear translators of Universal messages.
They are clear mentors, ready to assist us with our daily and spiritual lives 24/7.
If you don't know how to speak this langue yet, I implore you to learn.
Having this particular skill and technique available to you will begin to change your life in ways that you can't even imagine.
It's not hard to learn.
But there is a very specific choreography of the Guides& Angels. There is a very specific way that these etheric beings communicate with us via symbol, vision, message, emotion, knowing.
• It's not 11:11, 2:22 or 3:33
• It's much more than angel cards
• It's much more than casually talking to your guides and angels
• It's different than prayer
• It's different than meditation
• It's different than yoga
• It's different than nature
Now is a great time to begin this skill, because come this fall, there will be new courses to take you even further. If you have the basics under your belt now, it will be that much easier.
If you'd like to learn to speak this language, sign up for Be a Divine Conduit for Your Guides & Angels now, in partnership wiht DailyOM.
Pay-what-you-want sliding scale!
P.S. If you want to go REALLY, REALLY deep into this understanding, I invite you to sign up for small group training this fall, and work directly with me. Registration has just opened.
This morning, at about 4 a.m., I was awakened from a very deep and mystical dream to hear the explosive sound of branches breaking.
This wasn’t a small branch, dead wood suddenly tossed down by the wind.
This was big branch, the enormous, shuddering creaking of major limb or even whole trunk, cracking apart from itself and crashing down into the woods.
For a brief moment, after the booming crash, there was silence. In fact, in that silence, as I groggily tried to orient myself to what was going on, I wondered if I was dreaming.
But then instantly, the chatter and screams of all kinds of birds: either heralding the shift in the forest hierarchy, or misplaced from their home, crying in confusion that they had been uprooted.
Changes in our lives sometimes seem to happen this way. One minute we’re asleep, or lost in dreams or daydreams or distractions, and then CRACK, there is a shift in the field, a tree is down, a major limb is lost and all around us the beep of birds goes off like a car alarm that won’t quit.
This particular breaking branch, fallen tree, wasn’t too near. From the sounds of it, perhaps a hundred feet away. I walked out into the woods this morning to find it, but everything was a green tangle I would guess as I walk further into the ferny glades, the break will reveal itself.
The break didn’t affect me too much… or did it? We live in a unified field. A tree one hundred feet away that breaks at 4:00 am, unexpectedly, out of the blue… this was a wakeup for me, literally. And whenever there is a literal wakeup, there is also a spiritual one.
We don’t always understand these signs of nature. I don’t understand yet, what the breaking branch means; I don’t understand what part of my life it applies to, what message I mean to receive, what I meant to understand.
What I think now, is that I am guided to understand that things happen all around us, even when we sleep. We’re part of the energy of everything. My own waking up, in shock, on alert, when the tree broke, and my own waking up further with the birds calling… I remember that I am a part of this forest too.
Even 100 feet away, in a house, in a bed; I am still part of this forest, I am still part of this unified field, I am still part of this nature community that surrounds me.
The unified field contains us all: all soul, all time, all space, all matter. What affects one, affects One. Even a breaking tree, affects the field around it.

Sometimes we find ourselves on the brink of facing something we’d really rather not face.
We might have to face a person we have conflict with.
We might have to face a situation that brings up old stuff.
We might have to go to a place that brings up old wounds.
We might have to be in an environment that triggers us.
When you find yourself heading toward an experience that is going to be a soul lesson, it is common to feel a lot of negative feelings.
You might feel cranky.
You might start blaming others.
You might get mad.
You might panic.
You might want to run away.
You might shut down.
And sometimes, if the situation or experience or person is about to really push our buttons from the past, if it’s about to really make you feel or remember the big wounds we haven’t cleared up yet, we can get very angry, scared and resistant to this situation.
In our resistance to looking at our past pain, we may lash out at others.
Most of us have done this many times in our lives: it is normal to not want to experience pain!
However, whenever you notice yourself being triggered, take a moment and resist the urge to lash out, fight back, run away or shut down.
Instead, accept the reality that you have come face to face with at lesson: the Universe is inviting you to clear your fear, release your anger, let go of your panic, stand your ground.
You’re being presented with this lesson, because you’re ready to learn it.
And… resistance is futile.
If you don’t learn it now, no worries. You will be presented with this same lesson, in this lifetime and in all future lifetimes, until finally, you as soul move through it.
If you can surrender to your lesson now, wonderful.
If you just can’t do it now… there will be time later.
We are infinite souls, in infinite state of expansion via the human heart.

Sometimes we get overly excited at the start of a venture.
We buy the book.
We sign up for the class,
We join the retreat.
We reserve the event..
We’re SO excited!
And then, when we enter into the experience, all the buzzy excitement and impulsive “yes, yes, yes” goes away.
We suddenly don’t feel great.
Our excitement fades.
We are faced with the fact that we are here to do our work, and maybe we don’t really feel like doing our work, after all.
All the buzzy, excited “yes” of anticipation may turn to dread, overwhelm, even resistance or anger when we are faced with the actual book, class, course, retreat, program or event.
If you find yourself getting grumpy, wanting to quit, blaming the teacher, getting angry about a course or class, feeling like nothing’s working, feeling like it’s not a fit… take a look deeper.
It’s likely that you’re afraid of what you’re going to find when you enter in.
It’s likely that you’re scared of what you might discover.
Soul work requires vulnerability.
You have to let the Universe in, if you wan to change.
Soul work also requires time.
One book or class or course isn’t going to do the trick. The best teacher in the Universe can’t solve your whole life. No program will fix everything and make it all better.
It’s all a process.
Inner work can take years. In fact, most of us find it takes decades.
So… Don’t look for the quick fix. It doesn’t exist.
We open and expand at the pace we are ready.
There is no proper timing. There is only your timing.

When I’m working with people for the first time, one of the questions I ask is this: What is your spiritual belief system?
Most people are happy to talk very clearly about their relationship to God/One/All/Divine/Universe, or whatever name they might use for the infinite ineffable.
It is lovely to hear profound, well-considered manifestos from people all over the globe:
“I used to be this religion, now I follow my own path.”
“I believe in God, but not the way I learned it as a kid.”
“I know there are Divine beings who help us.”
“I believe I am fully supported by the Universe.”
“I don’t know what I know, but I know there is more than me.”
“Everything is one infinite soul.”
I love these statements of belief!
But my next question: ‘Do you have a regular spiritual practice?’ often meets with a sort of head-hung, I’m-so-ashamed kind of response.
People feel guilty if they don’t meditate every day.
People feel guilty if they have trouble sitting still to meditate.
People feel ashamed if they don’t pray regularly.
Sometimes people think that having a spiritual practice means having a consistent, daily practice: prayers and study at dawn, yoga every day, a particular diet or routine. This is a path for some.
Others think that having a true spiritual practice leaves no room for anything else. That to be spiritual means to live as a renunciate: to leave behind family, friends, interests and move into monkhood high in the Himalayas. This is a path for some.
But for most of us, spiritual practice is the aspect of life that we somehow squeeze into the hubbub of everything else in our lives. We’re “householders,” in the Hindu term: doing our dharma in the every day of work, family, chores, community… the big ALL of life.
Now, my question is never meant to invite shame or guilt over what we’re doing or not doing the “right” way.
And it is true: some people are very consistent in their habits: Some do yoga at break of dawn, every single morning. Some read daily, studying the teachings of the great mystics, saints, and sages. Some are true bhakti: they sing and dance and celebrate daily, a regular part of their lives. Some go to community services weekly or more.
But for most of us… spiritual practice is often catch-as-catch-can. And I’d like to say—with one small caveat—that this is a fine way to run your spiritual practice.
That instead of thinking about your spiritual practice as something you “should do,” or as something that must be done “a certain way” or at a “certain time,” instead consider your spiritual practice as your way of being.
Not something separate from yourself. But how you show up in the world.
Not what you do at a certain time or in a certain place. But how you are all the time, everywhere.
You are Divine, all of the time.
In this way of being, of living from consciousness, of living as a luminous, radiant, being of love, you would naturally be drawn to all the practices that help you to open and expand: studying, reading, praying, meditating, walking, journaling, singing, dancing, being in nature… all of it… because these are all the ways that help us open our true Self, and become One with our oneness.
You would naturally be drawn to connecting with the Divine beings and helpers who are continually surrounding us in other dimensions, layers, and levels of Universal vibration.
You would naturally be committed to learning the language of the cosmos, because this is the language of living from Soul.
You would naturally be curious about ways to “open” into more presence.
And of course, in leaning toward the Light, you automatically notice yourself leaning away from the dark.
You would naturally begin to turn away from all those things that shut down consciousness: many habits of modern society, so many old belief systems that belong to others and to you, and certainly anything that brings you shame or guilt or unworthiness.
When you begin to think of spiritual practice as the way you are being in the world, it becomes a great joy to create space for things that help you to feel yourself as one of One.

When our goal is to live in Flow, it is very hard to stay on the straight and narrow path.
We tend to change direction a lot, not being able to hold to a system, because the information that arrives to us from the Universe whispers so insistently: do it this way. Now, do it this way.
It reminds me of sailing a little Sunfish, one of those tiny, little sailboats that one person can sail by his or herself. A gust of wind will come up, and we’ll sense that energy, and let our sail out to catch it.
Then suddenly another kind of wind will come up, and we’ll tighten our sail against that one. We are always adjusting to the currents and the direction and the strength of the wind.
This is what we do in Flow: we are the sail, and the Universe is the wind, and we are always listening and feeling and adjusting to what to do and how to respond next.
Don’t worry too much if you have trouble following a “system” or a “program.” If you’re intuitive, creative, emotional, it’s going to be hard to put yourself into a system.
Keep following Flow. You’ll get to the same place. And you will enjoy the journey so very much more.

If you’ve been in spiritual practice for a while, and are used to going into beautiful meditations where your guides are fully communicating with you and giving you very clear messaging, you’re going to one day have the experience where they aren’t going to be there.
Or, maybe they will be there, but they’ll be hazy, or vague, or in the distance. Or maybe they’ll even show up, and sort of turn away, or wave you off with their hands.
As if to say, not today, my friend.
Or, the shop is closed today.
Or, we aren’t doing a meeting today.
If this happens to you, it is a sign that you are meant to do other things besides meditation and guide communication, for a while.
Sometimes we use meditation and contact with the guides as a kind of crutch for getting through our lives: we ask the guides a lot of questions that we already know the answers for. For example, we might continually ask the guides for a specific question, over and over again.
And the guides continue to give us great information, or information for us to explore. But instead of going out and acting and exploring and doing, we just sit at home asking questions. Doing more meditation.
Asking over and over again, when we have already been given the answer.
After a point, our guides will not provide us with more answers, until we’ve taken action on what we’ve received.
If you find yourself in a place where the guides have temporarily closed up shop, don’t despair. This is a sign to get out in the world in an active, physical way. Meet people, do things, allow yourself to receive synchronicities, and actually follow them.
This will lead you to your next step.

There’s this myth that you have to know your spirit guide’s name.
And, it just isn’t true at all.
Sometimes, rarely, you will get a name. If you are American, this name is often something really plain, like Bob, or really fancy, like Ashkar, or St. Germaine.
If you get a name, great. Go with that.
But if you don’t get a name, don’t spend another moment worrying about it. Our spirit guides are real beings, who exist in other dimensions, who have the ability to work with us in vision, symbol, language, and emotion, in order to help us with our understanding of the ineffable All/One/God/Universe/Source.
They are like translators for us, using systems of understanding that are familiar to us.
They are much more interested in helping us receive a vision of an eagle diving into the sea, for example, that helps us understand our life’s purpose, than they are in giving us their names.
It’s not easy for us, as humans, to receive these visions fully. The guides seek to give us what is most important: the vision and the understanding, in the limited time they have when our concentration is strong.
The thing is… our concentration is pretty limited! Our guides aren’t going to waste it on names. They want us to get to the juice, the core, the essence of what we need to know about our life and our path. Names aren’t a priority.
Let go of the need to know your spirit guide’s name. If it happens, great. If not, focus on the more important aspects: what your guide or guides are bringing to you, for your higher understanding.

I sometimes get stuck in the trap of believing what everyone believes, or thinking what everything one thinks, even though in my heart I know it’s wrong.
The other day I needed to drive my son to the airport for his flight, after a long holiday weekend.
Everyone knows the traffic is going to be terrible on a Sunday after a holiday, and parking will be difficult, and the airport security lines will be long, right?
Except, none of that was true.
The weather was perfect, and the traffic was simple; many times I found myself in those pockets of space where even on a crowded freeway like I-5, there wasn’t another car even near us for long stretches.
We found a parking space right next to the airport overpass, within seconds.
The lines were so minimal at security, we had time to wander around and look at the shops for fun.
I have the feeling, that if I had allowed myself to be in the expectation of group thought, my experience would have been very different: stressed, angry, tired.
But because we just went with the idea of being; of just showing up to the experience, whatever it was, with a sense of full involvement, it was easy.
What everyone else thinks usually leads you astray.
What you desire and hope for and want, even if it’s something as simple as an easy trip to the airport, is what almost always happens.
P.S. We're starting soon for Intuition University Spring 2016. Join us!
Our most advanced scientists are working on Oneness.
Quantum physics, unified field, the God particle. There are scientific terms, but when we look at these theories in terms of spirituality, of Oneness, of the idea that everything is One all the time, we understand that what we're working on is way more than just science.
Maybe we don’t have the science yet to prove Oneness; but we have glimpsed it. Maybe we don’t have the spirituality yet to prove Oneness; but we have glimpsed it. We know Oneness is there, because it’s so clear we are not separate; we feel this in every atom of our selves.
All of our experiences are part of unified field: the way we connect with each other in energy and emotion, without needing to be in the same place, or even the same time. There are too many coincidences, too much "random," that simply isn't.
Above all, there is too much energy, emotion and unexplained phenomenon for us to not all be connected to each other, intimately, completely, without separation. Some things are beyond math and science, some things are beyond language.
We know we are One, because every cell in us knows, and because our own soul tells us, over and over and over again, whenever we let ourselves be awake.

If you were raised on fairy tales, you were given a gift.
Depending on where you live in the world, there are fairy and folk tales that offer moral lessons, warnings against evil or darkness. There are also tales that invite us to think more creatively about our circumstances, and to not accept what the society or group thought would have us believe.
Many of these tales involve a young hero who must do a challenging task. Our hero usually meets a wise person, a beggar, a witch or an elemental, who gives them gifts with magic properties, or who advises them how to communicate with the Universe.
For example, if the hero is charged to find a precious ring that has been thrown into a field of flowers, the her or she simply speaks to the ants of the field, and they quickly find the ring. Or, if the hero is charged to clean a filthy hut, the birds of the air quickly come and do the task.
What we are taught then, is two stories: the first story, which that each hero is on a quest; each hero must walk a path. But under this is the second story: the recognition of nature as an ally, nature as magic, the world as a Universe that is something that we are not apart from. This second story teaches us that there are many beings that we can communicate with directly, both on this plane, and in the plane of multi-dimension, the etheric realms.
Of course, there's nothing fantastic tale about this! Living in multi-dimension is as real as death and taxes. It is all simply a matter of opening your mind, and awakening to this reality.

When we use the clairvoyant “rose” as a technique, people are surprised why it works so well.
The rose is of course not really a rose. It’s an energetic container of Universal energy. When we look at this container, it provides us with a symbolic understanding of the energy of the person, relationship, situation or future outcome we are asking about.
Using the rose as a tool allows us to have a certain distance from our own first response to a situation; it helps us let our own judgments, hopes and dreams relax. By looking at the rose, instead of directly at the person or situation we are reading, we are invited to look at the energy or the vibration or the emotion of who or what we are reading.
We are invited to look at the person or situation as a container of energy; as a container of Oneness.
For example, if a person has very dark energy but a beautiful façade, using the rose allows us to see the energy, without getting distracted by the façade.
If we were to try to read directly from this person, we might get all caught up in our own feelings about beauty or attractiveness. But when we use the rose as an energetic stand-in, as a symbolic representation of the energetic essence of the situation, we are able to read clearly.
P.S. You can learn how to be clairvoyant in my best-selling course: Spiritual Psychic 28 Day Immersion.
If you frequentliy surround yourself with white light or wear a crystal or amulet as a means of protection, consider what you are doing.
So often we think that if we surround ourselves with white light, or wear a certain talisman, we are protecting ourselves from outside forces of darkness. We think we are applying a protective coating on our auras, or creating a circle of protection that we are safe inside.
These are old ideas, that bring up old superstitions of dark and light, of the idea that we are vulnerable to darkness at any time.
It is true, that darkness is real.
But it is also true that our own soul, as it leans toward the Light, is source of true power and protection and strength against all darkness, no talisman or extra circle of protection needed.
As you meditate, as you pray, as you are with your guides as spiritual practice, you will understand what it means to lean toward the Light every day, and you won't have use for the old superstitions, the old ideas about punishment and pain and fear.
We’re all Light, all the time.
We can remember this, and carry this knowing and power with us.
P.S. Join us for our February Course of the Month: Manifest Miracles.
A beloved student who had a terminal illness, wrote to me that she was experiencing meditations that contained extraordinary creatures and flowers, magical animals and colors that were the greatest delight and comfort to her.
She wondered if it was okay to dive into this great delight, this heavenly experience in meditation. She wondered if this was serious enough work; if it would help her in her expansion.
In truth, this is one of the best uses of mediation: to bring us into states of rapture, delight, exhilaration, euphoria, nirvana, bliss.
Sometimes we expand so much in this bliss state, we can’t quite make out what we are seeking or feeling: it's all a state of energy. Sometimes this state is very specific: we see beautiful creatires, color, animals, spirit beings in detail, with vivid understanding.
When you meditate, don't hesitate to enter int to this heavenly spot, this nirvana, this delightful other world!
Remember: heaven is right here. We don’t have to transition, or in any kind of altered state to find it. We can experience nirvana any time.
This beautiful experience of magical animals, beings, colors, flowers, fairy folks and all that arrives in this state of blissful meditation, is designed to help us free our minds to new realities.

If you haven’t been to church or temple for a while, it can be interesting to go again, and notice what you notice.
When you go, you will find people who are still in religious community; this can seem unusual, because so many have begun to turn away from traditional religion and instead have chosen to create a religion of their own: no priest, no rabbi, no guru.
And yet, people in religious community have not turned away; they are still following a traditional or ancestral path.
When you go into religious community, you will see the power of ritual, the power of group thought in people who have decided to believe the same thing. You will also see the power of religion to support and comfort people in the comminuity.
Go in with an open mind. Look around and observe. See if the Divine is in the room for you, in church or temple. Or, see if you find the Divine more easily, in the freedom of your own life.
Maybe it doesn't matter: maybe the Divine is the room, wherever we are.
Notice also the power of many people praying and worshiping together; this may be powerful in a good way for you, or it may be disturbing. It may bring up feelings you had in the past, as a child.
Be a part of the experience, and notice what you notice. Add this to your understanding. Continue your own spiritual practice, with this inew information

You're probably naturally psychic.
You have hunches, you have gut feelings, you know things without being told.
You're clairsentient: you feel the vibe, you sense the energy.
This is how most people are; we're just born this way.
But there's a difference between having natural psychic skills... and learning how to hone and use your natural abilities, so that they can make a difference in your life.
It's like painting, or playing the piano, or learning a language.
You might have natural gifts.
But until you take the time to study and practice, these natural abilities can't read their full potential.
They're gifts, that aren't opened.
I invite you to open your gifts: to make the investment of time and energy, to really learn how to open your psychic abilities: to use the Rose, to work with Guides, to understanding the symbolic and energetic way the Universe communicates, to dive deeply into your self as Soul.
To get a firm grounding in spiritual intuition, check out courses and training. Take your own natural skills further! You'll be amazed.
If you're sensitive and empathic and like to dabble in things like meditation and spiritual intuition, it's easy to get a little spooked at Halloween.
The idea that the "veil is thinner" on this day, is prevalent in many world cultures.
The thing is... the veil isn't thin on Halloween. It's thin everyday.
We tend to notice it more on Halloween for two reasons: one, because we are affected by group thought, and group though is affected during this time of year: the holidays of Samhain, Halloween and All Souls all happen at the same time. Many people around the world will be focused on the spirit world, and the dark spirit world. We are always affected by group thought, because we are one of One.
Second, we tend to notice it more on Halloween, because we are more aware at this time. We are paying attention. We are turning into spirit world, and whatever we tune into or focus on is what our reality becomes.
If you're spooked and scared of how spirit world seems to get bigger and louder during Halloween, don't be.
The truth is: it's always that way. All the time.
Spirit world is active, accessible and filled with Light, if that this what you seek.
Of course, if you seek dark, you'll find that too. It's not pretty, and it's not fun... so please, stay away.
This Halloween, it is ideal to connect with your guides and angelic being, the highest forms of love and light available to you. If you need help, you can check out my course Be a Divine Conduit, which will walk you right in.
Have you ever found a message in a bottle?
The Universe is sending us clear, understandable messages all the time.
The secret is knowing how to interpret them.
You can learn how in my course, How to Hear What the Universe is Saying.
If your focus is on training or courses, learn all the ways we connect as spiritual community.
By now, if you've been working through our courses you may have dived into a past life.
If you're like most, the past life you experienced was a close mirror to your life now.
When work with past lives for healing, we are often shown:
• Past lives in which we are dealing with the same lessons as now.
• Past lives in which we are doing the same work as now.
• Past lives in which we are in the same relationships as now.
What happened for you? I'd love to hear from you about your experience on the DailyOM forum.

Often people ask me what their spirit guide's name is, or what message their angels have for them.
The thing is... as a spiritual being, part of your path is to learn how to access your spiritual helpers, on your own.
This can sound like a daunting task, but I assure you, it's very easy.

Have you every had a favorite creative project that you really, really loved?
For me, that project is my book The Four Passages of the Heart: Moving from Pain into Love.
I released it a few years ago, and not everyone has found it. It's been a hidden treasure.. Until now...
I'm very excited that Aspire Magazine is featuring it as one of their top ten inspirational books... and even better, in the issue that features visionary publisher Louise Hay!
If you haven't read this book yet, I invite you to take a look. It is the sequel to The 33 Lessons in Writing the Divine, and continues with the spiritual teachings there.
Here's a sampling, of what you'll find inside.
The heart is closed four ways: first by the physical body, next by the emotional armor we all carry, next by the physical heart itself, and finally, at the very center of everything, is your inner heart, the heart within your heart. Ananda Khanda. This is what desires to be cracked open to the world.
The heart opens over and over again, until the heart within the heart, the Ananda Khanda, finally is able to become illuminated and infused with light. These openings happen in the most ordinary moments of every lifetime. When the inner heart opens fully, this is known as bliss, transcendence, nirvana. There is no going back from this opening; the inner heart, once opened, always remains open. If this happens to you, your life will be forever changed
What do we mean, when we talk about the four passages of the heart? What do we mean, when we talk about heart’s opening?
Obviously, we’re not talking about a physical opening in the heart; it’s energetic, just as all things are energetic.
We’re not talking about a one-time thing, either. Instead, it’s a progressive opening, a series of passages from one state of consciousness to another. Again, it doesn’t happen all at once—that would be too much, too fast, a shock to the system.
Instead, our heart opens slowly, when we are ready. We move through each passage as part of our soul growth, in Divine time.
Some folks bust their hearts open at a young age, determined from the get-go to live life at full throttle—to accept what life brings without hesitation, and to live their days in love and light regardless of situation.
This is a great way to live!
Others of us take longer, opening our hearts slowly as we they move through our lessons of soul growth, as our experiences on earth teach us the lessons of wisdom.
Still others stay stuck for years, even decades, entombed in anger, sadness and shame.
You will find yourself in one of these places, now.
Right now, you’ve either got a heart that’s fully open, partly open, or mostly shut.
If your heart is fully open, congratulations. Please give this book to a friend!
If your heart is partly open, this book will help you open it further.
If your heart is mostly shut, you may feel quite vulnerable as you read this book and consider what might happen if you dared to open your heart to the light.
