How can we shield from dark energies or dark spirits? Or even, how can we adjust our vibration to match that of another person, as you mention in your book, Becoming Your Best Self? —N.C.
It’s easiest if you think of vibration as a color. Usually, these colors show up as the chakra colors. Going from lowest to highest vibration, that would be: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white.
It’s not that energy actually vibrates in “color”. It’s just that color is an easy, symbolic way for us to think about how energy vibrates. It’s a simple tool for us to use. Other ways to think about energy are as texture, or by description, such as: sticky, dense, confused, chaotic, soothing, etc.
If you a meet a person who’s really cranky, it’s likely that person is vibrating a really low vibration—in terms of color, this might be black, or dark brown, or red, or orange. What can be useful, if you run in to a person like this, is to attempt to match frequency, even if that means lower your own frequency slightly.
For example, if you meet a person who vibrates at red, you might switch out of your normal airy and etheric blue vibration, and move down one level, to the vibration of green—which coincidentally is the color of the heart chakra.
You wouldn’t go down further; you wouldn’t take on their yucky energy. But sometimes, getting a little more “grounded” yourself in earth energy, helps you relate to a person or energy that is troublesome.
Now, of course if the energy is really dark, toxic, has the sense or smell of ash, cigarette, you get really as sense of violence, insanity—you’re going to want to get yourself away, and go into the highest vibration you can, which is white.
This is where the idea of “surround yourself with white light” comes in.
But for normal day-to-day encounters with people, either matching vibration, or lowering yours just a little, can be very helpful.
You might find my course Become a Spiritual Psychic a good place to work on these ideas.
I have been reading a lot of the books about channeling, including your book (Writing the Divine) and some of the books by Abraham (Esther Hicks). You channel in writing, but it seems she channels in her voice. What is the difference in these methods? Can it be learned or taught? —Dakota F.
Channeling in writing and channeling by voice like are really the same thing—it’s just a different delivery system.
I receive spiritual teachings in writing, probably because I’ve been a writer my whole life, and I am able to type very quickly with my eyes closed. Esther Hicks started channeling through her voice, and that was a comfortable method for her.
In the old days of the early spiritualist, they used to channel in writing by hand on long pieces of paper, or by manual typewriter. It is really about the person, and their personality, and the Divine using the aspects that will be the best “fit” for that person.
Channeling can be taught, but it cannot be forced. It can be developed, like all psychic skills, but I find it one of the more rare of the psychic arts. It’s a kind of clairaudience that comes out in writing or speech—people who are good with language usually have the best bet at developing this ability.
You can find more information in my book Writing the Divine.
I have been reading your book Writing the Divine and I am excited to begin channeling! I really like The 33 Lessons at the end of the book, too; those have helped me in healing from some things in my past. However, I am nervous to start the actual channeling, as your book describes. I’m excited, but I’m so afraid that I will attract dark energies. Do you have any words of advice for this? —Norah (from Chicago)
These are great questions, and I appreciate you asking them.
As you read in my book Writing the Divine, there are a few ways to channel or as I prefer to call it “receive”. It’s really about deciding that you are going to walk the path of the spiritual psychic—that means connecting to Divine/One/All/God/Source, whatever name you prefer.
When you work this way, you are attaching to a higher vibration, not a lower one. When you call your spirit guides into your presence (and anyone can do this very simply and easily,) they will hold the higher vibration for you.
When they are there holding the vibration, you don’t have to worry about attracting other spirits, or anything yucky. They keep things in the realm of light and love.

I lost my mother about 3 years ago. She was 74 and died quite swiftly of cancer. I was an only child and she and I were very close. I know that if there was a way she could communicate with me that she would, even if only to tell me she is okay. My mother was a very spiritual person and even sensed her passing, I feel such a nagging inside that I should be trying to hear from her spiritually. I just don't know how exactly to do it. My question is about your online course, Become a Spiritual Psychic in 28 Days. Will this course benefit me in my pursuit? —Gina
Gina, I am so sorry for your loss. It is very difficult when someone we are so close to passes. You and your mother had a deep karmic connection, and this makes it even harder to not have her available to you in daily life.
However, love continues beyond the veil! My father, who passed 10 years ago, comes to me very frequently in spirit form; he’s still the funny, kind man he always was, except he looks younger than when he passed. Sometimes spirit likes to show up in the body form they especially enjoyed!
I think the course you mentioned is a good bet for opening your psychic abilities; however, the course that will help you most in contacting the departed safely is Become a Divine Conduit for Guides and Angels. This will show you as easy way to connect with your mother.
It’s not always possible to reach the departed—sometimes they are unavailable. But I sense that your mother will be available to you quite easily. As you know or will soon learn, love is eternal, on Valentine’s Day, and on every day of the year.
